Prompt #7
This experience has been a great experience to shape my teaching identitiy. This is because I was placed in a classroom with such a diverse setting. This is a classroom experience that I would not have had if I were to be placed in another school setting. And because of this unusual school setting around me i have become a different teacher because i now can understand how to talk to all children no matter sex, age, race, ethnicity, culture background, and even the different speaking language students. I am not saying that now I can just talk to them because I could before, but now I can actually help them and teach them not by just giving the children the information they need. But by actuallly teaching them with all of the new methods I have learned. Before this tutoring experience if i were placed in a room with 20 ESL/ELL students and i were to teach all alone i would have totally been lost and not have known how to handle it at all. But now after this experience if i were placed in that same classroom of 20 ESL/ELL students i feel that i would have the courage and the ability to teach an entire lesson and also do my best to get the children to understand it through different approaches. Another thing that i have learned first hand from this experience and that shaped my teacher identity is how many dfferent learening paces there are in that one classroom. One student can be done in 1 minute and another in 10 minutes but as the teacher i must constantly be trying to get the students to understand the concepts of what is being taught. Something that will always stat with me and my teacher identity is the importance of listening and following the rules. The reason for this is because in the first weeks of the volunteering the children in my class were out of control bbut after the teacher started giving penalties for misbehaved kids and always emphasized on listening and following directions the class sudeenly became more productive. And also from my own point of view I believce they learned more and enjoyed doing the work more because they were actually paying attention and know hoe to do the work instead of just holding it off and not doing anything. So this experience has definately shaped my entire teacher identitiy because i did not have much of a teacher identity prior to this experience.
Prompt #6
Communicating in ways that demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to sociocultural and linguistic differences was actually one of the main thigns I learned during this volunteering to help. The reason i say this is because i was in a ESL/ELL classroom with extreme diversity. About half of the class did not speak english while the other half did. So what the teacher did was pair up students. One who spoke ebglish with one who did not. The reason she did this was because they ALL spoke spanish but two girls and they were partners. This partner structure was used for every situation possible and it was for the spanish students to have help from someone who understands and speaks the language because neither the teacher or me spoke spanish. I am glad i was in a ESL/ELL classroom because i learned teaching techniques that I would not have learned otherwise. For example i taught the children math through using pictures, blocks, counters, cubes, coins, etc. I have used a number of different resources just to get through to the children, which overall widened my teaching strategies or even my teaching methods.
Prompt #1
The neighborhood I am volunteering in is a busy neighborhood because there is a lot of traffic. The school is directly near a five way intersection in the middle of Providence. The school building looks like it has been there for too many years, inside the building there was some ceiling damage. But overall the building was large enough and equipped to have all students feel comfortable there. I noticed that the hallways were much smaller thasn the hallways i had when i was in elementary school but besides that everything seemed to be perfectly normal. Also there was enough space for kids in all classrooms, except there was one class that always met in the cafeteria (not quite sure what class). This school values the children listening to the adults. The teachers i was volunteering to help, her main focus was top teach the kids how to listen and follow directions. That is what they had rouble with, it was not even the school work that was difficult for them.

Indian Fathers Plea
In this reading there is a father who is writing a letter to his 5 year old son's kindergarten teacher. This father is writing this letter to the teacher because his son is considered a slow learner compared to the rest of the children. Also as an Indian the father along with all other Indians are proud of their race, heritage, and culture but instead his son is ashamed of this. The father is asking the teacher to understand the different types of children in his classroom and to adapt to all of his students so every student can be getting the same education. This is extremely important in any classroom as we have seen previously in many other readings during the course of this class.
